Where to find us
The Pot Spot is in the heart of the Old Village of Muizenberg, in Atlantic road (the main rd to the beach). Turn off Main road at The Muze / Checkers centre, go under the bridge, past the surf and piano shop and you will find us at no 11.
What we offer
The Pot spot specialises in wheel thrown domestic ceramics. We make simple, functional ware for use in the home. Our work is high fired (1220 degrees) and is strong enough for use in the oven, dishwasher and microwave.
There is a shop in the front part of the studio with a selection of our homeware, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. We are happy to accept orders and commissions.
The Pot Spot offers a firing service, and pottery classes for adults. We also facilitate once-off group pottery sessions.
The Pot Spot is equipped to produce a volume of about 100 medium (read cup/bowl) items per week after a lead-in period of 2 weeks. Typically an item will take 8 days to make, from start to finish.
We use stoneware clay, typically fired to 1220, for its strength and durability, in white, buff, red and black bodies. All our waste clay is recycled. We make our own glazes from nontoxic minerals, using oxides for colouring to produce a variety of gentle, retro pastels. Our wares are glossy to prevent staining and surface scratching with use.
